The Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, announced on Thursday, 5 February 2026, funding for two initiatives aimed at supporting and safeguarding Ireland’s upland areas. The funding includes a new three-year pilot Upland Recreation Scheme in the MacGillycuddy Reeks, designated as a “Mountain Access Project”, as well as a two-year initiative to advance the work of the “Helping the Hills” network.
